It may have been earlier than St Andrew’s Day, but in Maybole it was the day of the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights, organised by Maybole Community Association. The entertainment started at 4pm in the Town Hall and Magic Malky kept the fun going from then on with plenty of music and dance to keep everyone happy. Carrick Academy choir opened the concert with “I wish it could be Christmas every day” and choirs from Cairn Primary, St Cuthbert’s Primary and Gardenrose Primary kept the seasonal music going. Chi-kaz dancers also performed. At 5.30pm, everyone made their way outside as Maybole Pipe Band marched from the library to the Town Hall followed by Santa and his special friends. These included Owen Grant and Zoe Lamont, Gala King and Queen of Carrick, as well as South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie. Then it was time to count down for the big switch on and as the lights lit up snow started falling. Afterwards there was a disco for under 12s back inside the hall.

A few days after helping to switch on Maybole’s Christmas lights, Santa Claus was back in the ancient capital of Carrick for the annual Christmas Bazaar organised by the local Community Association.
