Maybole Gala Week was held Sunday,
June 2, with an ecumenical service at Crossraguel Abbey at
3pm. The theme was Boots and Shoes - to tie in with Maybole's
main industry through the ages. The service is organised by
Maybole Council of Churches and features hymns chosen by
representatives of all churches in the town. Making their
first public appearance year’s Gala King and
Queen of Carrick – Cairn pupils Cameron McCulloch and Ruth Dowie
were officially crowned on Gala Day Saturday
June 8.
The king and queen were also present at
the annual Pet Show held on Tuesday June 4 at
6.30pm at Ladywell Stadium. The Gala Quiz was held in
the Maybole Arms on Thursday June 6 at 7.30pm and teams are
welcome to just turn up on the night.
On Gala Day itself, Saturday June 8th the
parade was led by Maybole Pipe Band. The king and queen and
their attendants left Carrick Academy at 1pm and
proceeded via the High Street to the Glebe Park via Kirkoswald
Road, Whitehall, High Street, St Cuthbert’s Road and
Crosshill Road.. Attendants this year were Gardenrose pupils
Sophie Lawrie and Michael McCormick; and St Cuthbert’s
pupils Zoe Campbell and Josh Malone
At the park, the King and Queen were
crowned by Adam Ingram MSP and Sandra Osborne MP. Local
councillors Brian Connolly, Ann Galbraith, Sandra Goldie and
William Grant were there for the coronation.
Prizes for the Parade will include Best Group
and Best Individual Outfit in various age groups were
available at various stalls and side shows including Ayrshire
Reptiles, the Owl Man, Pitch and Putt, Beat the Goalie, and
pony rides. Entertainment included Maybole Pipe Band,
Ian Jack, Aileen Robertson Dancers, Maybole Majorettes and
Chikaz. There was also be a Best Dressed Shop Window
competition.
