A special service at the
Greenside in Maybole last Tuesday, January 27 marked
Holocaust Memorial Day. The service at 11am, was organised
by Maybole Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, was
led by Fr Stephen McGrattan and marshalled by George Taylor,
branch secretary. Piper Scott Barrie played the lament and
John Bounds and Janetta Rodger laid wreaths on behalf of the
Legion. Standard bearers were William Milligan and Mark
McEwan. Poppy crosses were laid by members of the Legion,
pupils from all local schools and members of the public
Holocaust Memorial Day is the international day of
remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust and of other
genocides. and is marked each year on January 27, the
anniversary of the date of the liberation of Nazi death camp
Auschwitz-Birkenau. |
