Carrick
Academy’s St Andrew’s Night Finale was a phenomenal success
on Thursday November 26. With over 100 artistes taking part
and Maybole Town Hall filled to capacity, it was a fabulous
end to the Year of Homecoming celebrations in the town where
the parents of Robert Burns first met and then married. Top
of the bill were The MacDonald Bros who had come home to the
town where they were born and Craig and Brian really raised
the roof with their set. The whole evening had the audience,
which included South Ayrshire’s Provost Winifred Sloan,
clapping their hands, stamping their feet and thoroughly
enjoying the night as the singers, dancers, pipers, and
fiddlers went through the whole range of Scottish music. To
close the show, most of those taking part took the stage for
a grand finale singing Caledonia, the song adopted as the
anthem for the Year of Homecoming, ending with young piper
Scott Barrie playing the chorus as he left the hall. The
whole finale richly deserved the standing ovation it
received.
