Maybole Gala Week starts this coming Sunday,
June 2, with an ecumenical service at Crossraguel Abbey at
3pm. The theme is Boots and Shoes - to tie in with Maybole's
main industry through the ages. The service is organised by
Maybole Council of Churches and features hymns chosen by
representatives of all churches in the town. Making their
first public appearance will be this year’s Gala King and
Queen of Carrick – Cairn pupils Cameron McCulloch and Ruth
Dowie who will be officially crowned on Gala Day Saturday
June 8.
The king and queen will also be present at
the annual Pet Show which will be held on Tuesday June 4 at
6.30pm at Ladywell Stadium. The Gala Quiz will be held in
the Maybole Arms on Thursday June 6 at 7.30pm and teams are
welcome to just turn up on the night.
On Gala Day itself, Saturday June 8th the
parade led by Maybole Pipe Band, the king and queen and
their attendants will leave Carrick Academy at 1pm and
proceed via the High Street to the Glebe Park via Kirkoswald
Road, Whitehall, High Street, St Cuthbert’s Road and
Crosshill Road.. Attendants this year are Gardenrose pupils
Sophie Lawrie and Michael McCormick; and St Cuthbert’s
pupils Zoe Campbell and Josh Malone
At the park, the King and Queen will be
crowned by Adam Ingram MSP and Sandra Osborne MP. Local
councillors Brian Connolly, Ann Galbraith, Sandra Goldie and
William Grant will also be there for the coronation.
Prizes for the Parade will include Best Group
and Best Individual Outfit in various age groups plus there
will be various stalls and side shows including Ayrshire
Reptiles, the Owl Man, Pitch and Putt, Beat the Goalie, and
pony rides. Entertainment will include Maybole Pipe Band,
Ian Jack, Aileen Robertson Dancers, Maybole Majorettes and
Chikaz. There will also be a Best Dressed Shop Window
competition.

out on the day and anyone who is able to help is asked to
