What's Good About GOOD FRIDAY?
You
might well ask: Why call it Good Friday?
If Jesus Christ is the Son of God, how was His death
good? And crucifixion was such an excruciating death, of agonising pain,
until death came as a great release.
What is GOOD about GOOD FRIDAY?
But the actual physical suffering was nothing more than
hundreds of thousands experienced. Roman soldiers crucified thousands of
men - but relatively few near Rome, for crucifixion was deemed unworthy of
higher Romans' contemplation!
No, for all its
terror, all its horror, it was not the physical suffering that made the
cross the awful experience for Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter puts it
like this:
He himself bore
our sins in his body on the tree,
so that we might
die to sins and live for righteousness;
by his wounds
you have been healed.
1 Peter 2:24-25
And the Apostle
Paul writes:
God made him who
had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in him
we might become the righteousness of God .
2 Corinthians
5:21
The REAL
suffering for Jesus,
was taking our
sin upon Himself.
Now God can
FORGIVE our sins in Jesus' name.
We have but to
confess our sin to God, to ask His forgiveness, and to ask the Lord Jesus
to transform the pattern of our lives. Then, THAT day's appalling darkness
turns into an unimaginably
GOOD FRIDAY
That's why GOOD
FRIDAY is so good!
May God Bless
you this Easter season
For now is
Christ risen from the dead.
