Things Bright And Beautiful
A spell of
glorious weather has chased
cold, dank winter months into the recesses of memory. Warm sunshine means
doors and windows thrown open, winter clothes washed and stored away.
Trees that
were bare all winter now have coverings of new leaves. Snowdrops came,
then daffodils, and bluebells will soon follow. And there are multitudes
of other flowers about.
Our bird
table already has blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, gold finches
and siskins visiting. Sparrows, starlings and pigeons are always around.
But why?
Why the great diversity that most people find so enjoyable? For those who
bother to consider it, this annual return of exquisite beauty is a
pleasing, even enchanting extravaganza of variety, design and colour.
Why? Well,
some would say: Because!
But Christians say: Because God
designed things this way.
It is part of His nature to make things intricate and beautiful. To design
things so that they work with precision and are, at the same time, lovely
and wonderful to behold, is the way God is.
When it came
to mankind, the Bible says in Genesis
chapter 1 verse 27: God
created man in his own image . . . male and female he created them.
And what God designs He
cherishes. So when man went against God's nature and sinned, God did
something about it, John 3.16-17
For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into
the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
As you ponder
God's bright & beautiful creation, think of yourself. Where do you
stand? You're designed for a relationship with Him. |
