What a wonderful surprise when I logged into
Maybole.org this evening - on the front page a photograph of
my great grandfather, Alexander McCreadie, one of the West
Church elders. I have never seen a photograph of him, so, as
you can imagine, I was really thrilled. I attach a file of the
West Church Parish Magazine of May 1900, which contains the In
Memoriam for Alexander who died at the age of 40 in March
1900. Pat Yourston (nee McCreadie) March 2005
Magazine article and the rest of the story. |

I was pleased to see the photo of the church
elders. I'm researching my family tree and my 3 times grt
grandfather was William Lawrie. His brother was Stewart Laurie
who appears in the photo. Stewart was born in 1840 in Ayr
married 18 Oct 1860 died 10 Sept 1910 at 10 Gladstone Place.
Stewart married Alice Deavlin from Crosshill and had 3 sons
William, Stewart, and Henry but quite a few girls some of
their married names are Wands Conway Murray and Miller. It
would be nice to find any living rellies of any of their
children in Maybole. Many thanks
Kim Kelly
