It has been said that Scotland and many other English speaking countries are "separated by a common language". Although it is English, to hear the language spoken by an native Scotsman can be a bit confusing for visitors new to Scotland and Maybole. There are also many words which require some interpretation. Read the recipe below slowly to get an idea of what a more pronounced accent might sound like.  Listening to this poem of Robert Burns will also give you a sense of the spoken word with a bit less of an accent.. (Real audio required.) For more on the subject you can visit The Scottish National Dictionary Association web site which also has links to other sites on this subject. You can also listen to the Scottish Parliament proceedings at: www.scottishparliamentlive.com or to BBC Scotland.
