MAYBOLE readers
may be struggling to think of a connection between local man David Kiltie
and Rangers FC! But there was David accepting a bottle of luxury Scotch
from Ken Crawford, stadium manager at Ibrox, home of the Glasgow football
giants. Ken has his roots in Maybole, and surprised David with the gift at
Carrick Sports Club during the festive season. The stadium boss also had
David blushing with an impromptu speech of praise that stopped just short
of calling for a statue to be erected! Ken joked later: "Maybe that
wouldn't be such a bad idea! "But seriously, David makes a huge
contribution to life in Maybole. "He's involved in umpteen community
organisations - all on a volunteer basis. "And he's one of the main people
behind a wonderful Maybole website which has admirers all over the world."
The website highlighted that a Maybole team once faced Rangers in the
Scottish Cup. That was a second round tie at Ibrox on January 27, 1900,
when Maybole went down 12-0. But it was no shame on Maybole, who were one
of the best teams in Ayrshire in their day. ( From the Ayrshire Post.
January 2002. ) See also another article which
appeared in the Ayrshire Post in June of 2002 honouring David's
service to the community. |
