Margaret Hodgart nee Kidd swam the English Channel on 23/7/87 and the Irish Channel on the 23/8/88 and  competed for Scotland at numerous long distance swimming events. A life long resident of Maybole, she is the only person from Ayrshire to have  swam the English Channel and only Scots woman to have swam  the Irish Channel .

The long distance swims I've done were the English channel, Irish channel, Loch Lomond, Loch Rannoch, Lake Windermere, 2-way Lake Windermere, Ailsa Craig to Girvan , Suez Canal, Lake Zurrich, Loch Earn, Lough Earn ( Ireland), Gallway Bay (Ireland), Tay Swims. Lake Windermere was my favourite swim and I think I swam it about 10 times. I also swam in the first International swim at Lake Windermere for Scotland in a team of 5 and was the only Scottish swimmer to complete it.  Maggie Hodgart. August 2002
