LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN CARRICK

COMPUTING

Many people in Maybole will already know of and may have taken part in the classes run on the Rural Training Bus. Accredited SQA introductory courses have been offered in Maybole and the villages over the past few years enabling people to gain skills for personal use or to enhance their employment prospects.

More recently, with the completion of the computer suite at Carrick Academy, we have been able to offer evening classes in introductory and accredited ICT courses. These have proved to be very popular and we would hope to run further courses in the autumn. If you have a particular area which you would wish to see covered whether it be Internet Skills, Desk Top Publishing or any other topic please do not hesitate to contact the local office to let us know what is needed.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Help with reading, writing, form filling, basic numeracy etc is also on hand by contacting Linda Muir at the local office. Linda co-ordinates a team of volunteer tutors who provide a voluntary service on a one-to-one basis at a location convenient to the student. Programmes are tailored to meet the needs of the individual. More volunteers are always needed so if you have a few spare hours per week and would like to find out more about the scheme please contact us.

SHORT COURSES

Many short courses are available through the Community Education Service including topics such as Parenting Skills, Make Your Experience Count, Handling Stress, Assertiveness Skills and many more. These can be slotted into existing groups or put on for the general public. Daytime courses are supported by crèche provision where possible.

Again if you wish to find out more please contact the local Community Education Office, Carrick Academy Campus on 01655 882 105.
