 The
Maybole club is a long established bowling club which is
situated in a sheltered spot in the Northern end of the
town. In it’s time it has produced many fine bowlers who
have gone on to represent the County and indeed Scotland. It
has always had a reputation for friendliness and for the
open way that it greets visitors whether new bowlers or
well-established players. It is open most afternoons during
the season for friendly “sweeps” and these can be entered by
anyone who fancies a try!
Most weekends during the
season there are club competitions limited to members while
on three weekends “open “ competitions are held when
visitors from other clubs compete for trophies and cash
prizes. Membership fees have been kept low through the years
by volunteers carrying out routine work on the green
assisted when required by professional input. Fund raising
by , mainly lady members, has also kept the books balanced!
The club was one of the first
in Scotland to admit lady members and this decision was
followed in later years by ladies being given equal rights
in the club. The committee has equal numbers of ladies and
men and the Presidency is held on alternate years. Anyone
who would like to join or indeed simply to try the game with
no obligation can simply come to the green at the beginning
of the season.( Flat shoes are required but bowls are
available). This normally runs from the third Saturday in
April until the third Saturday in September.
