The Club was
started in 1991 as "The Pontoon and Social Club" by Alex Gemmell in
"The Gray Man" Alex was captain for seven years. The aim of the Club
was to get members out and about on courses, which they had never played. The
Club has since played on golf courses in Thornhill, Edinburgh, Arran, North
Allerton, Co. Louth, Donegal and Bangor. This year the summer outing is to South
Shields in Newcastle.
Club membership is
21 (Pontoon) and the membership is fully signed up with a healthy waiting list.
The current captain is Willie Westcott, Vice -captain Sandy Thornton, Secretary
David Shaw and Treasurer Ronnie Dobbie. Club members buy their own season
tickets allowing them to play all the South Ayrshire courses - three in Troon,
three in Ayr, one in Girvan and one in Maybole. Two medal games are played every
month.
In 1997 the Club
became a member of the Scottish Golfing Union and is now officially recognised
and members are able to play anywhere in Scotland. There are three outings every
year, in spring, summer and winter. The Club also has an annual Dance and Prize
Giving which is held in the Carrick Sports Club in January. |
