I grew up in Maybole and attended Carrick Academy where I sat the Scottish Higher Leaving Certificate examinations in 1961; went to work for Scottish Stamping & Engineering Works in Ayr, where I met my wife. We were married in 1967 and moved to South Africa on contract to a company in the south of the country. We liked it so much that we decided to stay. My sister still lives in Maybole. My uncle was the " qualifying " teacher at Carrick Academy for many years ( James Bowie ). One of the photographs attached was taken when I was in his class.
