Physics quiz at Strathclyde University

On 26th of September, Robert Sykes, Sam Currie, Rebecca Hayton and Alistair McLintock attended Strathclyde University to take part in a Physics quiz.

There were six rounds of questions which included: General knowledge; Team questions; two rounds of individual questions separated by an anagram round as well as a final quick fire round at the end.

Carrick came second with a score of 32, and were just beaten by St Andrew’s secondary with a difference of three points. At one point we were tying with them but then lost out on a few questions, however some consolation was drawn as they beat Our Lady’s school.

Rebecca says: It was my first time at this quiz and I found it ok and would probably do it again next year.

Football Results

Seniors- Auchinleck 1 v 0 Carrick

Carrick narrowly lost their league cup semi final away to Auchinleck.  The game was played on a blaze surface; this combined with the conditions didn’t make a great footballing spectacle.  We hope to exact some revenge later in the season.

Seniors- Carrick 3 v 1 Garnock

Garnock travelled down to Maybole to face a weakened Carrick team who were without some key players due to international commitments.  Garnock proved to be a strong physical outfit, but Carrick were able to break down their opponents with guile and steely determination. Goals scored by Shaun Murphy, Kris Scott & Greg Montgomery.

S3- Carrick 0 v Grange

Carrick were drawn a tough home fixture in the Ayrshire Cup.  Without 3 key players Carrick suffered their biggest defeat of the season.

S1- Carrick 3 v 2 Kyle

Carrick’s latest team made a winning start in their first game, Kyle travelled down full of optimism.  Goals coming from Ryan Ferguson, Gavin McMillan and an absolute screamer from Kiellan Cook!

Blood Brothers

Recently, 45 pupils from S1-S6 travelled to the King’s Theatre in Glasgow to see a production of the popular stage show, ‘Blood Brothers’.

The trip was organised by the English Department and Mr Wilson, Miss Mcgugan, Ms Baird and Miss Adam attended.  All pupils were well behaved and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  The story followed the characters from childhood to adulthood and the pupils found the antics of the young boys very funny.

Rachel McKellar of 5th year told us that she found it very interesting and would definitely go and see it again.  Daniel Hamilton, also of 5th year, told us that he would recommend it and thought the production was very good. Mr Wilson kindly organised ice cream and cola at the break for all pupils and Miss Adam said she was very impressed with the pupil’s behaviour on the trip.

Anyone who wishes to attend must pay there £10 deposit by the end of November to Elizabeth McJannet or David Wylie, please note that no pupils under 5th year are allowed to attend even if they have partners in the senior school.
