October Holiday
The school will be
close on Friday 12th October for our October break and
will re-open on Monday 22nd October for staff.
All pupils will return on Tuesday 23rd October. On
behalf of Carrick Academy we wish you an eventful holiday. Let’s
hope the sun stays out for us!
Show case evening
There was a show case
evening held on Tuesday 9th October for future 1st
year pupils to show them round the school and see what it is like
before they come. Different departments put displays on to show
parents the type of work their children will be doing when the come
to Carrick, for example the technical department had pupils showing
there work folio’s and also working on their computer aided graphics
projects. The future pupils found it of great use as they were able
to see round the school before coming and so it will hopefully make
the jump from primary to secondary a bit easier. The senior pupils
were on hand to show them round the school and all parents were
given the opportunity to receive a copy of the school newsletter. If
anyone was not able to come on Tuesday and would like the news
letter sent to them then please email
Rebecca.Duffin3@carrick.sayr.sch.uk .
S6 Schools of Ambition Leadership day
On Friday 5th
October the sixth years headed off to Oswald Hall in Auchincruive to
take part in a leadership day as part of the schools of ambition
initiative. They were split up into groups and asked to carry out a
range of challenges to encourage team building and leadership
skills. Some of the challenges they took part in was to make a timer
with some marbles and bit’s of pipe that would time 7, 12 and 24
seconds, also they were to work together to complete a giant jigsaw
but there was a twist, they were blind folded!
By far the hardest
task of the day was one called all tied up in which the pupils were
tied together with roped and had to figure a way to get themselves
untied while still having there hands in the loops at the end of the
day, only 1 group was able to compete this difficult and frustrating
task. A great day was had by all and the rest of the school will get
the opportunity to take part in these challenges over the next week
so we will hear how they got on after they come back.
Jeans for Gene’s Day
Jeans for Genes Day
is to be held on Friday 12th October. For this event the
pupils are asked to come to school wearing jeans, however they
MUST wear their shirt and tie as normal. Pupils will be
expected to pay £1 for the privilege of wearing their jeans and this
money goes towards Gene Research.
Jeans for Gene’s Day,
is organized by four national charities, and raises funds for
research into serious genetic disorders affecting thousands of
children such as cystic fibrosis, hemophilia and sickle cell. Funds
also provide laboratory equipment and facilities, as well as
valuable advice and support for families. I’m sure you’ll agree it
is a great charity so come on Carrick lets support the cause!
Halloween Disco
There will be a whole
school Halloween disco held on Thursday 1st November. The
tickets are priced at £2 and will be on sale nearer the time so
watch out for them. Everyone who attends is encouraged to dress up,
so whether you are coming as a witch, Fred Flintstone or even a
bunch of grapes, please take part and be someone different for the
night. There will be prizes for the best costumes so get your
thinking caps on and see what you can come up with.
S1 Interim Reports
S1 will receive their
interim reports prior to the October holiday. Any problems with
reports please contact the school to solve any queries. Thank You.
Assistant Marshalls
A Significant thanks
goes to all the seniors who helped the
Marshalls on
the days S1, S2 and S3 went to Auchincruive to carry out their
challenges as part of The School of Ambition programme. Feedback
was great and many people said “The seniors were outstanding and
were very functional to the Marshalls; all senior pupils interacted
well with junior pupils to create a relationship which worked well
as younger pupils paid attention and listened to them and treated
them with authority”
Mini Trials
Well done to all the
pupils who took part in the mini trials on Saturday 6th
October. Carrick Managed to win their first case against Marr
College with Gordon Gillon and Evelyn Crate prosecuting, with Steven
Kelly and Iona Haston acting as witnesses. In the afternoon Carrick
faced Ayr Academy with Eilidh Douglas defending and Josh Macleod and
Adam Hastings acting as witnesses. Unfortunately we lost this case
but Eilidh was commended by the Sheriff for an outstanding
performance. In both cases Hannah McCubbin and Emma Hamilton were on
the jury. Whilst Jamie Lawrie was Clerk Officer. Well done to
everyone involved.
School Football News
Carrick Academy’s
Under 18 team won 4-1 against Queen Margaret Academy. Another fine
display earned Carrick an impressive home win. Mark Taylor opened
the scoring goal before David Logan and Kris Scott made it 3-0.
Queen Margaret scored a consolation goal and David Logan got his
double late in the second half.
Carrick Academy Boys Represent Ayrshire Teams
Both Tony Howie and
Jo Maxwell have been selected to play for Ayrshire’s Under 15 team.
They have already played their first competitive game which was
played on Wednesday 10th October at Hurlford’s
Blair Park.
These two pupils are
not the only two who have been chosen to play for Ayrshire as Fraser

in the under 18 team. They recently played Glenrothes at Troon
Juniors Park and managed to win 2 v 1 with Fraser scoring a goal.
Congratulations to them all and good luck for your future games
