CARRICK ACADEMY NEWSLETTER

AUGUST 2002

Welcome back to the new session.  I hope that everyone has had a most relaxing break despite the poor weather over the summer.

I was greatly impressed by the standard of dress and the way the pupils conducted themselves on the first day back.  My thanks to the parents, in particular to our new S1 intake as ties and sweatshirts had to be purchased from the school office during the holidays, for their invaluable co-operation in these matters.

Early impressions of the results are that Standard Grades are slightly up, but there is a slight drop in the Highers.  We are now in the process of re-negotiation with some seniors in terms of changing their options.

On the staffing front, Miss Connor has joined the Modern Languages Department, Miss Happell in History, Ms Robertson in Art, Miss Donnelly in Business Studies, Mr McGinnis and Mr Hopkins in Technical.  We wish them all well and hope they will enjoy working with us here in Carrick.

We have now concluded the School and House Captain interviews and later in the newsletter you will find more details of the results. Congratulations to the pupils and I am sure they will find their responsibilities most rewarding over the coming session.

The S4 Work Experience programme gets underway on 2nd  September and again we are indebted to the local businesses and parents for their assistance and support with this valuable experience for the youngsters.  A full report will be featured in the next newsletter.

I will do my best to keep you informed of progress through the pages of the newsletter.  If, however, you have any concerns or wish to enquire about anything please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Regards

R Stewart

Headteacher
