Text Box: Carrick Academy Newsletter – June 2004

Report from Mr Stewart

Can I offer my best wishes to staff, pupils and parents for a lovely summer holiday. Thanks to all the parents who have written in to the school throughout the session offering support. It is greatly appreciated.

The start of next session will see the primary seven pupils join us as fully-fledged Carrick pupils. The three-day visit went very well and the feedback from the pupils was very positive.

The Authority  HMIe Follow Up Inspection started on Monday 21 June. We have been involved in a number of visits from the Authority to take pictorial evidence as part of their report to the HMIe. Indeed the Time Educational Supplement recently visited to create an article relating to the School Values.

I am finishing off the session with a series of interviews for various posts and details can be found later in the newsletter.

I will update parents in the August newsletter with details of the successful applicants from these posts.

Finally, best wishes from the staff go to our leavers who have been as well prepared as possible to take the next step in their career path.

Regards

R Stewart

Headteacher

Cloud Callout: Not knowing anyone. Being picked on. I was worried about getting lost. Finding classes. I was worried about going from the oldest in school to being the youngest.

On 8th, 9th and 11th June, pupils from our Primary schools visited us to find out what life in Carrick Academy is like.  We caught up with some of them to find out what their concerns were……..

We wanted to know if after spending time with us, they were still worried……

We also wanted to know what the “Best Bits” were…….

Prize Giving

On the 16th of June 2004 prize giving took place in Maybole Town Hall.  Awards were given to pupils who were involved in sports, academic excellence throughout the school year.  Our thanks to Councillor Murray for his interesting speech and to his wife who presented the prizes.  Many thanks to Mr Dibden, Mr Henderson and pupils for fabulous musical entertainment.

Parents Association

We intend to start a ‘new’ Parents Association in Carrick Academy after the summer break.

A Parents Association is a great way to bring interested people together to support the school as it provides an opportunity for everyone to work together and is open to all parents/carers, teachers and interested parties of pupils from S1-S6

If you are interested in becoming involved, please come along to the first meeting, which will be held on Tuesday 7th September.

If you would like more information or a reminder abut the meeting please contact Karen Walker here at the school.

Support for Others

In the Easter Holidays, four girls: Holly Dempsie, Caroline Kennedy, Gemma Scobie and Alison Shearlaw did a 15 hour sponsored bounce in aid of the Scottish Cancer Support Group, in particular, we wanted to support a little boy called Ben, who suffers from Leukaemia.  Everyone had great fun (even though it was pouring) and the girls would like to thank all staff and pupils who supported them by contributing.  A total of £466.58 was raised – Well Done Girls!
