Erected by the family in memory of their father JOHN HALDANE who died 6 June  1910 aged 68. Also their mother AGNES GIBSON who died 5 October 1931 aged 79.  Their brother JAMES died 14 October 1918 aged 42. Their sister ANNIE died 16  September 1900 aged 15. Their brother JOHN who died in infancy. Also their grandparents JAMES and MARGARET HALDANE.

FAMILY HISTORY

 

FIRST GENERATION

 

1.  Peter GALBRAITH was a Farmer.

 

  Peter GALBRAITH and Jane MURCHIE had the following children:

 

            +2              i.    Ursula GALBRAITH (born about 1791).

            +3             ii.    Sarah GALBRAITH  (born about 1819).

 

SECOND GENERATION

 

2.  Ursula GALBRAITH (Peter-1) was born about 1791.   She died on December 3, 1868 in Bridge Street, Girvan, Ayrshire.1

 

William HALDANE died before 1851.   He was a Fisherman.  Ursula GALBRAITH and William HALDANE had the following children:

 

              4              i.    Sarah HALDANE was baptized on October 31, 1818 in Parish of Colmonell, Ayrshire. 2

            +5             ii.    James HALDANE (born on October 31, 1822).

              6            iii.    Thomas HALDANE was baptized on March 31, 1827 in Parish of Colmonell, Ayrshire. 3

            +7           iv.    Elizabeth Melville HALDANE .

 

3.  Sarah GALBRAITH (Peter-1)  was born about 1819.

 

She was married to John CAMPBELL on November 21, 1834 in Parish of Dalrymple, Ayrshire. 4  John CAMPBELL was born about 1809.   Sarah GALBRAITH and John CAMPBELL had the following children:

 

              8              i.    Quintin CAMPBELL was baptized on June 14, 1835 in Parish of Dalrymple, Ayrshire.5  He died YOUNG.

              9             ii.    Flora CAMPBELL was baptized on December 29, 1836 in Parish of Dalrymple, Ayrshire. 6

            10            iii.    Mary CAMPBELL was baptized on July 21, 1839 in Parish of Dalrymple, Ayrshire.7

            11           iv.    William CAMPBELL was born on October 14, 1841 in Parish of Dalrymple, Ayrshire. 8

            12            v.    Sarah CAMPBELL was born about 1845.

            13           vi.    John CAMPBELL was born about 1847.

            14          vii.    Quintin CAMPBELL was born about 1850.

            15         viii.    James CAMPBELL was baptized on November 27, 1853 in Darlington Place U.P., Ayr, Ayrshire. 9  Informant on his Aunt Ursulla Haldane's death certificate;

            16            ix.    Agnes Belfon CAMPBELL was baptized on March 8, 1857 in Darlington Place U.P., Ayr, Ayrshire. 10

            17             x.    Matthew Brown CAMPBELL  was baptized on July 24, 1859 in Darlington Place U.P., Ayr, Ayrshire.11

 

THIRD GENERATION

 

5.  James HALDANE (Ursula GALBRAITH-2, Peter-1) was born on October 31, 1822 in Parish of Colmonell, Ayrshire. 12  He died on March 29, 1891 in Dunure, Maybole, Ayrshire.13   He was a Fisherman.

 

He was married to Margaret GIBSON on December 10, 1843 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire. 14  Margaret GIBSON died between 1881 and 1891.   Unable to find a death of a "Margaret GIBSON" who was spouse to a "John

HALDANE" but coincidentally in exactly the right period is the death of

 "Margaret GIBSON" spouse of John! HALDANE and daughter of John GIBSON and

Elizabeth HAY. If JOHN is a mistake for JAMES on the death certificate then

 this would make the Margaret Gibsons #204 and 541 the same and relate this

family to the GIBSONs of MI's #33 & 34.  James HALDANE and Margaret GIBSON had the following children:

 

          +18              i.    John HALDANE (born about 1843).

 

7.  Elizabeth Melville HALDANE (Ursula GALBRAITH-2, Peter-1) was baptized on March 11, 1829 in Parish of Colmonell, Ayrshire. 15  She died on August 11, 1880 in Dunure, Maybole.16  She was buried in Kirkbride Churchyard #43.

 

She was married to John HARBISON (son of William HARBISON and Agnes (Mc)BLANE) on August 19, 1849 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire. 17  John HARBISON was born on July 27, 1827 in Parish of Dailly, Ayrshire. 18  He died on August 24, 1878 in Dunure, Maybole.19  He was a Fiisherman/Master Grocer.  He was buried in Kirkbride Churchyard #43.   Monumental Inscription at Kirkbride Churchyard - Erected by the family in

memory of their father JOHN HARBIESON who died at Dunure 4th August 1878 aged

 51.  Also their mother ELIZABETH MELVILLE HALDANE who died at Dunure 11th

August 1880 aged 51.  "In blessed hope waiting for the coming of our Lord

 Jesus Christ". - mason : J. Douglas;  Elizabeth Melville HALDANE and John HARBISON had the following children:

 

          +19              i.    William HARBISON (born on October 31, 1850).

            20             ii.    Agnes HARBISON was born on October 10, 1852 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire. 20

            21            iii.    Thomas HARBISON  was baptized on October 8, 1854 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.21

            22           iv.    James Haldane HARBISON was born on February 5, 1858 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.

            23            v.    Elizabeth HARBISON was born on September 16, 1866 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.

 

FOURTH GENERATION

 

18.  John HALDANE (James-3, Ursula GALBRAITH-2, Peter-1) was born about 1843 in Dunure, Ayrshire.  He died on June 6, 1910.   He was a Fisherman.  He was buried in Kirkbride Churchyard #9.   He has reference number Spouse's cousin.  Monumental Inscription at Kirkbride Churchyard -

            24              i.    Margaret HALDANE was born on February 25, 1873 in Parish of Old Luce, Wigtownshire.

            25             ii.    Agnes HALDANE was born on January 5, 1875 in Glenluce, Wigtownshire.

            26            iii.    Thomas HALDANE was born about 1877 in Dunure, Ayrshire.

            27           iv.    Elizabeth HALDANE was born about 1879 in Dunure, Ayrshire.

            28            v.    John HALDANE was born in 1881 in Dunure, Ayrshire.   He died INFANCY.

            29           vi.    James HALDANE was born about 1876.  He died on October 14, 1918.  He was buried in Kirkbride Churchyard #9.

            30          vii.    Annie HALDANE was born about 1885.  She died on September 16, 1900.   She was buried in Kirkbride Churchyard #9.

 

19.  William HARBISON (Elizabeth Melville HALDANE-3, Ursula GALBRAITH-2, Peter-1)  was born on October 31, 1850 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.24  He was a Fisherman.

 

He was married to Janet GIBSON on September 20, 1871 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.  Janet GIBSON was born about 1852 in Dunure, Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.   William HARBISON and Janet GIBSON had the following children:

 

            31              i.    John HARBISON  was born on February 15, 1872 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.

            32             ii.    Elizabeth Melville Haldane HERBISON was born on May 10, 1874 in Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.

            33            iii.    Janet HARBISON was born about 1876 in Dunure, Parish of Maybole, Ayrshire.

          +34           iv.    Helen HARBISON (born about 1884).

 

FIFTH GENERATION

 

34.   Helen HARBISON (William-4, Elizabeth Melville HALDANE-3, Ursula GALBRAITH-2, Peter-1)  was born about 1884.  She was a Domestic Servant.

 

 She was married to William HAY (son of Robert HAY and Margaret EDGAR) on April 29, 1910 in The Hall, Dunure, Maybole, Ayrshire. 25  William HAY was born about 1877.   He died on October 31, 1919.  He was a Fisherman.  He was buried in Kirkbride Churchyard #51.   Monumental Inscription at Kirkbride Churchyard - Erected by HELEN HERBISON in

 memory of her husband WILLIAM HAY who died [3]1 October 1919 aged [43]
