Dedicated
on Sunday 20th 1920 and was unveiled by Major James Murdoch, factor of Monkwood
Estates.
The memorial was originally sited in the forecourt of Coates Memorial
Church and was moved to it's present site on Main Street in 1987 when the church
was converted into a private dwelling.

In
1949 Mrs S Galbraith from Auchendrane placed a small brass plaque inside the
church bearing the names of the three men of the district who died in the 2nd
World War. One of those named was her son Brodie who served in the Royal Navy.
The plaque is no longer in the church and has been missing since about 1985/86.
