A Celebration of Burns was held in
The Carrick Centre, Maybole on Friday 7th February. This was
organised by the local fundraising committee, with the expert
help of Andrea Hutchison who supervises events in the Centre,
and was a joint venture of Maybole Parish Church and the Centre.
Elizabeth McCrindle, on behalf of the committee, welcomed the
company. The haggis was piped in by Andrew Fulton and addressed
with gusto by Jim Stevens.
After the Selkirk Grace by Alan
McFarlane, the packed hall enjoyed a traditional meal prepared
by Robert Barr and staff and served by Centre volunteers. Alan
Murray compered the next part of the evening and this included a
talk by Alan himself entitled “A wee bit about Burns”.
This was followed by entertainment
with a difference from Jim Stevens, the accomplished accordion
playing of Murray Patrick, the nimble-footed dancing of Rebecca
and Monica and rousing piping from Andrew. There was a highly
successful raffle and the bar was provided by Optex. In a
comprehensive vote of thanks, Alan Hutchison thanked all those
who had contributed to such an enjoyable evening.
