The wedding of Mr Simon Ferguson and Miss Natasha Murdoch at Crossraguel Abbey on the 4th of August 2006 went well. Although the day had some prolonged misty rain, it dried up in time for the ceremony during which a Harris hawk delivered the rings to the bride and groom. Falconers from the Outdoor Activity Centre had practiced the week before for the unique delivery of the rings. On the day of the ceremony they also brought a barn owl and a beautiful little kestrel hawk included in the images shown below. Click on the image above and those below to view full size. Shown here are Falconers from the Outdoor Activity Centre located at the Westin Turnberry Resort practising flying their Harris hawks at Crossraguel Abbey. The birds are 3 year old brother and sister called Amber (the female) and Nectar (the male). The falconers are Jamie Dempsey and Robert Pitt. They were giving the birds some flying practice in the abbey surroundings in the run up to the wedding.

The abbey has 4 weddings arranged over the month of August. All the couples are getting married at the high altar of the Choir within the abbey and all are hoping for good weather since the abbey has no roof. Historic Scotland who look after Crossraguel Abbey have several of their monuments licensed for wedding ceremonies.
