Maybole Gala Day was a great
success last Saturday and the rain stayed away. Susan Whiteman,
chair of Maybole Community Association who organise the annual
event, thanked everyone who took part saying, “A lot of hard work
and co-operation went into the parade and we would like to express
our appreciation to everyone." Maybole Pipe Band led off the parade
from Carrick Academy followed by the town’s royal couple, walking
groups and, bringing up the rear, Samba Ya Bamba.
At Glebe Park Provost Winifred
Sloan Hill officially opened the gala and then Owen McDowall was
crowned King of Carrick by Sandra Osborne MP and Amy Strang was
crowned Queen by Cathy Jamieson MSP. The new king and queen are P7
pupils at St Cuthbert’s Primary. Their attendants were Cairn pupils
Kyle Harkness (Crown Bearer) and Emma Eaglesham (Lady In Waiting)
and Gardenrose pupils Ryan Dunlop (Crown Bearer) and Chloe Miller
(Lady In Waiting). Maybole Brownies were judged the best
walking group with St Cuthbert's PTA runner-up.

Dunaskin Doon Band played a selection of music during the ceremony.
Rev Dave Whiteman recounted the history of the formation of the
British Legion in 1921.
Children were well catered for by
several performances by Uncle Billy and races and entertainment was
provided by Ayrshire Muay Thai kickboxers, Samba Ya Bamba, Maybole
Majorettes and Dance School, and Thorpe Karate School.
Mrs Whiteman was pleased with the
number of local people who turned out for the gala and how things
had gone in the run-up to it. She said: "Our
service at
Crossraguel the previous Sunday was a wonderful start to
our gala week and we had great fun at our team quiz night. "The pet
