Maybole Gala King and Queen Niall Murphy and Sam Currie of St Cuthbert’s Primary School.

In this special Year of Homecoming, the Maybole Gala King and Queen are Niall Murphy and Sam Currie of St Cuthbert’s Primary School.

Their coronation will take place on Sunday June 21 which is a big change for the town. Normally the gala is on a Saturday but in this special year organisers Maybole Community Association have made the event bigger.

As well as the gala there will be a market fair similar to the one held two years ago and pipe bands will play in all surrounding villages before coming together for a large parade in Maybole. More details.

Funding for the event is being provided by Events Scotland and an application for further funding is with South Ayrshire Council.

In another change, instead of Glebe Park, the events will be held at the Greenside and Maybole Town Hall.

And later in the evening the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who are in great demand all over the world, will appear in concert in the Town Hall. Watch out for further details on how to get tickets for this night of “Jock ‘n’ Roll”!

The gala gets off to an ecumenical start as usual with a special service at Crossraguel Abbey on Sunday June 14, and there will be the usual quiz and pet show later in the week.

As these are really special events, the committee is looking for as much help as possible and anyone who would like to volunteer to help is asked to contact June Dunlop, Florist in Maybole High Street, tel 01655 882210.
