MAYBOLE Town Hall was the venue Friday evening for a very special ceremony to honour 29 residents for their contribution to life in the town. Maybole Community Council chairman David Kiltie welcomed an audience of well over 100 people and said: "There have been many occasions when I have been proud of what we have done and tonight is just such an occasion. "Tonight, in fact, is a very special occasion for Maybole Community Council when it pays tribute to a number of very special people." The community council invited nominations for consideration in August and the closing date had been the end of October.

Mr Kiltie said: "Everyone being presented with a Scroll of Appreciation has been nominated by others in the community and we are delighted to acknowledge the contribution they have made to the quality of life in Maybole. "Some are very well-known locally and other perhaps not so well known ; others are known further afield; all have helped make Maybole a better place or better known. " Maybole's last Provost William Cuthbert presented the scrolls and many years ago was also the first person the community council presented with a special medallion embossed with the town's coat of arms.

Mr Kiltie added: "I would especially thank the community councillors who put so much effort into this evening and everything leading to it, especially Jim McDermott, Peter Mason, Marianne McCreadie and Anne Walker." He also thanked James Brown of Baltersan who designed the scrolls and Mr Cuthbert for presenting them. Mrs Cuthbert received a basket of flowers. The Rev Bogle commented on the range of work done by so many in the community. And he presented the final scroll as a surprise to community council secretary Anne Walker.
