I have been involved in Community Activities in Maybole and in North Carrick for over 25 years. I believe that it is essential that Local Government involves and consults local people and organisations and that the views and skills of local citizens are recognised and used to help shape Community Life and Council Policy.
Local issues, which will be high on my agenda for the communities of North Carrick & Maybole West, will be: -

ACCESS TO LIFELONG LEARNING including – pre school, primary and adult learning opportunities in each community as well as opportunities for all secondary school age young people to have access to Out of School Learning Activities.

SERVICES FOR OLDER PEOPLE including resources for leisure & recreational clubs, services must also be available for people who people who require support to remain in their own accommodation.

COMMUNITY SAFETY ISSUES
including – maintenance of speed limits, introduction of traffic calming measures, and additional car parking areas where required.

PROVISION OF FACILITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
including – safe and comfortable meeting places access to Information Technology & the Internet, Opportunities for Sport & Involvement in the Democratic Process through Youth Forums.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES including - regular beach cleaning, maintenance of standards in appearance of commercial premises & open spaces and the provision of community based Amenity Skips & Recycling Schemes.

  • Community support for a By–Pass for Maybole must continue to be brought to the attention of the Scottish Office in order to achieve this much needed development.

It is also my firm belief that everyone should have access to opportunities for

PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY LIFE AND DECISION MAKING

And that

  • The most vulnerable and economically deprived people within the community must be given opportunities to fully participate and to be included in society.
