Week of September 28th 2001

Can you spot yourself in this sea of faces? Chances are, if you were a young Carrick Academy pupil in the early 1960s. you'll feature here. The remarkable photograph was taken by late maths teacher James Fulton. OVER the next 10 weeks, Carrick Academy will play host to several Chinese visitors who are looking at various aspects of education in Scotland.

IS there a need for a Gardenrose Tenants and Residents Association in Maybole? Do the people in the area care enough to get together to tackle issues of concern to the area? THE next speaker in Maybole Historical Society's programme will be Hew Pritchard of the Ayrshire Archives.

Legion charity at home with Hollybush. Cash raised in Maybole's High Street charity shop has gone to Hollybush Hose for ex-servicemen and women. Maybole branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland gifted £200 from their week's proceeds in the shop.

 

 

Golf Club Drives on After 20 Years. This year the Carrick Speakers Golf Club celebrates its 20th anniversary, and those who have been part of the club from the beginning are wondering where the years have gone!

Murray takes 'Maiboil' to Girvan Club. Maybole history buff Murray Cook takes his great passion to Carrick's other main town when he guests at Girvan and District History Society. And there is sure to be some good-natured banter before and after Murray's talk, titled 'At the Citie of Maiboll'.

This week the September holiday, marks the 20th anniversary of the first visit to Maybole by visitors from the French town of Crosne.

Members of The Tackety Bit Hillwalkers have had a busy few weeks and on Saturday, August 25, they headed for Arrochar to climb Beinn Narnain ...

Hanging baskets prove to be a big success.

More IT classes. Autumn classes in the computer suite at Carrick Academy include more of the popular beginners' classes on Tuesdays, from October 2.

Alpha on course again in Maybole. It's Alpha time again! The courses run by Maybole Council of Churches proved so successful last year that some of the 20 members are returning to help get the new session up and running.
