Maybole remembered
its war dead again on Tuesday, November 11 with an
Armistice Day service at the Greenside at 11am.
The service was
led by Fr Stephen McGrattan and was attended by the
Maybole Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland
and several other local organisations and all
schools. Piper Scott Barrie played the lament and
Alex Kelly recited Binyon’s Lines “They shall grow
not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not
weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down
of the sun and in the morning We will remember
them.”
He also recited
the Kohima Epitaph “When you go home, tell them of
us and say: 'for your tomorrow we gave our today'”.
Wreaths were laid
by George Taylor and Janetta Rodgers prior to poppy
crosses being laid by members of local organisations
and the public. |
