Through moors and valleys blushing fair
Who with the Ettrick can compare?
Where Yarrow's stream does gently glide
Hogg's minstrel harp is by her side.
By ancient Tweed and Border land,
Forever Caledonia grand,
Where highland men have died and fought
And all inspired the heart of Scott.
Sweet Afton flows her crystal stream
Perpetuating Mary's dream,
By banks of Doon a lover spurns
Now they're immortalized by Burns.
There's rhymes and sonnets to pursue
Of Shelley, Byron, Shakespeare too,
Yet those that stir the piper's drone
Are Scottish Bards and nature's own. |
