These are the minutes of  the Maybole Ragged School committee. The school was supported by a group of benefactors and subscriptions from the town's inhabitants. It was run by a committee whose aim it was, to remove as many waifs and strays from the streets of the town as finances would allow and to educate them in the "4 R's". Reading, writing, arithmetic and religion. The author, at this point in time is unknown, although it is possible from the type of language used in the entries that he was probably a church minister. These minutes were scanned and contributed to the Maybole website by David Law. Transcribed  by Margaret Dick.
