At the recent Save the Children golf
tournament at Brunston Castle the winning team was Duncan Watson,
David McCulloch and Colin Thomson, winning the quaich, and the
Charity Scott trophy winners were Elliott, Anne and Robert Glen-Esk.
It was a great day with glorious sunshine for 40 players teeing off
and the group made a profit of £2,500 on the day's event through
entries, local firms' sponsorship, raffle and donations. A special
auction item was a cap signed by players at the Open in July,
(Fredrik ANDERSSON HED, Stuart APPLEBY, Darren CLARKE, Padraig
HARRINGTON, and Justin ROSE) donated by the Glasgow Herald golf
Correspondent, which Brunston Castle successfully bid for and won.

Maybole
postman Alex Gemmell has raised a fantastic
£2,200 for Altzeimer’s Scotland with a sponsored
walk along the Southern Upland Way, Britain's first
official coast to coast long distance foot-path. It
runs 212 miles (340 km) from Portpatrick on the
south-west coast of Scotland to Cockburnspath in the
east. Most long distance walkers tackle the Southern
Upland Way by walking from west to east but Alex did
it in the reverse direction.
Alzheimer Scotland is a charity
which helps people with dementia, their carers and
families and Alex, 55 Hicks Avenue, handed over a
cheque last week to Jenni McKeand a Link Worker with
the charity. Alex told Jenni that a further £25 had
been sent directly to Altzeimer Scotland and he was
delighted to help as his father-in-law, Peter
Jardine, had suffered from the problem. He also
wished for the funds to stay in Ayrshire.
Jenni thanked Alex for his donation
and assured him that the money would be spent
locally. “We are very grateful for this fantastic
sum and that you selected us as sometimes we the
last to be thought of.” Alex’s daughter Jackie
McFadzean works with Rathbone in Kilwinning and 36
trainees there had raised £190 by recording CDs and
making bird boxes for sale. Jenni thanked the three
lads who had travelled to Maybole to hand over their
cheque.

Gerry Kelly who, at his 83rd birthday party at the club,
asked guests not to bring presents but to donate money
to the Hospice. Seen collecting the cheque from Gerry

David Murray of West Clean Cleaning Services
presenting George Logan Manager Carrick Amateurs
FC a change strip for the season. Carrick Ams
are now playing their football in Ayrshire's top
flight 'Premier League', having successfully
achieved promotion last season. So far their league
performances have not been up to Premier League
standard, having only 1 point to show out of a
possible 15. However the new strip was worn for the
first time away to Auchinleck Boswell in the first
round of the Ayrshire Cup and the Carrick men
comfortably won the contest 7-0; the new strip
certainly did bring a well needed lift to the team.
Pictured is David presenting the strip to George

Director, said, “We are delighted to sponsor Carrick
