At the eleventh hour of a very unique day 11/11/11,
Maybole held its annual Armistice Day service at the
Greenside. The service was led by Fr Philip Kitchen,
chaplain to the Maybole Branch of the Royal British
Legion Scotland, who was assisted by Rev Brian Hendrie.
Attending were members of the branch, other local
organisations and representatives from all four schools.
Parade marshal was Alex Davidson.
Carrick Academy pupil Scott Barrie played the lament and
Alex Kelly recited Binyon’s Lines:
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
He also recited the Kohima Epitaph:
“When you go home, tell them of us and say:
for your tomorrow we gave our today.”
Wreaths were laid by George Taylor and Pat Webster prior
to poppy crosses being laid by members of local
organisations, schools and the public.
